- Washington was inaugurated on April 30, 1789. He will become the First president of the United States of America .
- The Whiskey Rebellion
- America was $52,000,000 dollars in debt and needed a plan to minimise that debt. Thats where Alexander Hamilton cam in.
- Trouble In the Northwest Territory
- Hamilton's financial plan was a three step process. The first part was to combine state and national debt. The second part of the plan was to create a national bank. Finally, the third part of the plan was to have high tariffs on imported goods. (this part of the plan would never be initiated)
- The French Revolution in 1789
- In order for the new government to get more money they implanted a tax on whiskey. Many farmers who had extra wheat turned this wheat into whiskey. The farmers got very mad and started protesting against the tax. In protesting, the "Whiskey Rebellion" burned a tax collectors home down. However, this rebellion was quickly stopped by Washington and the military.
- In the Northwest Territory there was another problem, the British were still there after the Treaty of Paris. Plus they were supplying the Native Americans with weapons and ammunition to attack American settlements. When the United States tried to force the Native Americans in the Ohio River Valley to sell their lands, they fought back. After several failed attempts, the Americans finally beat the Native Americans. The Native Americans signed the Treaty of Greenville which meant that they gave up most of their lands to the United States.
- The French Revolution, in the eyes of the Americans, was the French following in the footsteps of the Americans by overcoming a monarchy. However, they would soon realize that it was much different from their own revolution. The French Revolution was much more violent. The revolutioners killed over 17,000 people including the King and Queen of France. The Revolution was caused by food shortages and an economic depression because of the significant spending of the king and other high power officials.
