Storyboard Text

  • Rose is a caring individual who shows her love multiple times in the play by offering food. Cooking is her love language. Even while being disrespected she cannot not show her love. The author writes, "Troy, I don't want to go into it. Your dinner's in there on the stove". (Wilson 76). Rose after being cheated on and taking care of anothers womans baby can't let go of her love for Troy. Troy embarrassed her, belittled her and barely apologized for her wrongdoings. She still shows up for him and shows that she loves him.
  • What is something the character cannot do?
  • During this scene troy is trying to explain to Rose why he cheated with another woman. He doesn't know how to talk to people with a normal conversation so he uses baseball terminology. He frequently does this throughout the play. Rose being fed up says, "We ain't talking about no baseball' (Wilson 67). Troy explaining that this is the only way that he can explain why he did what he did. Troy is trying to own up for his mistakes in a way that only makes sense to him. He uses baseball in a way to explain his feelings because this is the only way he is able to understand and explain his feelings.
  • What are some key things they say?
  • Troy is having a conversation with Rose and bono in the yard involving Cory. Rose mentions how Cory is being recruited for football. Troy having a previous past with sports isn't ok with this. He doesn't think that Cory doing sports is the correct choice. Troy has made many comments that proves that he isn't happy with himself and the choices he has made. The author writes,"It ain't gone get him no where" (Wilson 14). Troy says to Rose that his football career isn't going to take him anywhere. He doesn't like what sports did to him in the past or where it has gotten him now.
