- TENSION BETWEEN THE TWO GREAT POWERS-The Yalta and Potsdam conferences towards the end of the World War 2 showed the increasing tension between USA and USSR
- HARRY TRUMAN-USA:we have developed nuclear weapons under our Manhattan project. We will soon use them against the enemy.
- Soon there was a race to create nuclear weapons between the 2 great powers.
- JOSEPH STALIN-USSR:cannot trust the USA. I have to develop a stockpile of nuclear weapons myself.
- JOSEPH STALIN-USSR:We have to spread communist ideology far and wide.
- IDEALOGICAL CONFLICT (CAPITALISM VS COMMUNISM)The USSR was a communist nation based on principles of socialism and collectivism. But the USA was a modern liberal nation based on principles of individualism.
- This ideological conflict continued the Cold War. The USSR tried to promote communism to countries around it and the US worked to contain it.
- HARRY TRUMAN-USA:we have developed nuclear weapons under our Manhattan project. We will soon use them against the enemy.
