  • This is the Sahara Desert from c.1200-c.1450. The Sahara Desert became a well known trading network that helped the Mali Empire flourish with the help of trade.
  • Greetings!! I would like to trade my gold for some precious silk and porcelain from China!!
  • Yes! I agree to trade since both gold and porcelain are valued goods.
  • The Silk Road helped many countries to flourish including North Africa. The Mali Empire flourished due to the high demand of gold and ivory since they were luxury goods.
  • This is a caravan.
  • The Chinese merchant who just traded porcelain for gold then travels on a caravan to China using the Silk Road. He wants to boast and show off his wealth to his family.
  • The Silk Road is a land based trading route, that expanded trade and cultural diffusion. The trades during these times helped boost the Afro-Eurasia's economy. The SIlk Road was mostly dominated by the Chinese.
  • The Chinese Merchant then shows off his newly traded item to his friend since luxury goods were a sign of wealth. Most merchants seek to trade with other merchants while others seek for wealth.
  • I just traded in the Sahara Desert and there was many people with many goods! The economy is booming and I got to trade my porcelain with the rich gold of the Mali people!
